To the Hibiscus of the Seas
You do not go to deities
You are one
Salt gathers at your feet,
Yet you do not move,
Do not get overwhelmed,
The goddess of endurance
Your leaves —
Thick and waxy
Shield your mirth
Hold the ocean at bay,
Refusing to let thirst
Creep into your veins.
An idol of survival
You are a keeper of
Liquid joy
A quiet guardian of green
Where the tides
Exchange vows with the
Restless shore.
Sea Hibiscus, you remind me:
To stand firm,
To hold fast,
To thrive even when
The world tries to dry me out.
Planted against all odds,
You are meant to be
Beauty that would breathe
And let breathe
Your purpose rooted in land
You are wisdom embodied.
