In the Dark and Outside
I think of it at times
Who could have it been to decide
Who she would be
God, my father, or Time
Or was it just left to Chance
For letting me be.
In any case,
I would never have seen
The light
Unless my first home had
Opened the doors for me.
Kept me sealed and
Nourished me secretly.
Hidden there, a lump,
How I was glowing in the darkness inside!
Only she could see.
Only she could feel how –
Drop by drop and
Morsel by morsel
I grew stronger with time
I had no strength of my own
Her strength was mine.
Then there was the day she said
“I am ready for the Cross.”
Holy indeed.
And I was redeemed.
That is when the world knew
Who she would be
Because
She said ‘yes’ to me
Without any reason and
Despite what I had been.
